WOW. It's been a few weeks that I've been home enjoying my working vacation. I've played some great parties and BBQ's; last Saturday at Ginger 62, Pamela Masik's birthday at the Keefer. ( What an incredible woman, visionary and artist.... )

Thanks to DJ Leanne and Girl On Wax Events, All Good Entertainment and Luke McKeehan for keeping me busy...

It's been a minute.

A Mexican minute. Which could take hours, even days, and in my case, months! All because of love. It found me, and I followed it to Mexico 2 months ago.

It's taken some adjusting, still, with the language, culture, and location, as I live far away from the sprawling, lively Mexico City..! :( I am a city girl, through and through....

So, I've been taking time off. Getting to know me without the DJ - although I have played a fewsmall gigs, 2 in Alcapulco; Classico and Beach Club, and just last week at Pata Negra in La Condesa, which were all a tonne of fun. The response from the Mexican people is amazing, full of fun, passion, and party! Just like I expected.....

Some future exciting gigs are coming up, a few fashion shows and Pata Negra sometime in July. More info to come!

Thanks for staying tuned during this "leave of love absence," it was bound to happen sometime, no?

2010 Olympic Semi-Update!

For this weekend thou, you can find me at....

The Bay tommorrow in the make-up deparment for Lancome's big event, Ladies come check it out, with sweet soulful beats and makeovers and great deals, from 11 until 3 this will be the place to be!!

After that I am doing a private party at the Arbutus Club!

Sunday will bring me to Ginger 62 to play for industry peeps at an event put on my Society and Glowbal Group called "Pennies for Change...." more details to come....

Week in Review .....

Greetz !

It's been a hectic few weeks, with Halloween @ The Lawn & Tennis Club; the MOV event

on Friday, which had me DJ'ing at their exhibit entitled "Ravishing Beasts.." Taxidermy, if you didn't get the memo, is kitsch, cool and relevant now....thanks hipsters.. ;)

Of course Joey's is still going strong, with great turnouts every Tuesday with myself and DJ Leanne ( Burrard&Robson) and Thursday ( Broadway&Granville ) with yours truly...

Before that, on Oct. 21st, was the sweet surprise of going to see LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad @ Venue - liquid drum & bass legend from the U.K....who threw down a classic set that left my neck sore for a few days....( he used vinyl, too... :)

Here's a site that leaves me wanting more every time, filled with mixes, info, events, and updates from the highest calibre dj's and producers in the world, enjoy Resident Advisor!

Thursday Triple Play...!!!

What's good in the music world? At a time when taste is questionable, sometimes only classics will do - I must say I am feeling super happy this afternoon listening to a disco/deep house only as Dimitri from Paris does! When in doubt, do disco!

But on the flip-side of the classic, is the "au courant" en musique, MAKE THE GIRL DANCE! So saucy, so laissez-faire, so frenchelectro - BABY BABY BABY!

Ok - that's the word of the day! Laissez-faire ( pronounced lazy-fair! ) is a french word meaning to LET IT BE, or LEAVE IT ALONE! Let the people do as they choose - and it obviously works for the French! C'est c'est BON! ;)

Alright - back to Pacific Standard Time and my upcoming schedule!

Chelsea J. began her career in media, communications and entertainment in the late nineties, starting with radio as a radio host, producer, music and content programmer and local personality,her experience in the music industry was insight to what was going on currently in the DJ culture and beyond. A little background…

Since very young, Chelsea's range of music knowledge is what made her unique amongst her peers, the natural progression to DJ came easy.

After her time on radio, where hip-hop, R&B and soul music was her mainstay, she was offered a job promoting for Vancouver’s first and only 2-Step/U.K Garage night.

That experience introduced her to the world of house and electronic music. Inspired by DJ’s and producers from both genres, she was encouraged by friends to invest in her first set of turntables.

After only a short time, Chelsea was playing for clubs and events throughout Vancouver. She was offered a position at the Rhythm Institute, a school and DJ agency started by another fellow female jock and entrepreneur, DJ Leanne. That opportunity was a turning point in her career, as she was specifically chosen and requested for many high-profile events and clients such as the Elite Fighting Championship After-Party, Bo-Dog Events, Cornucopia Wine Festival, Run for the Cure, Clubvibes NYE, movie wrap parties; or sponsored events through Audi, Oakley, Heineken, BMW, Hypnotiq, and Smirnoff.

Her experience playing professionally is focused on special events and product launches; graduations, weddings, wrap parties, fashion shows, grand openings, corporate events and seasonal parties; her versatility and ability to read and connect with any crowd is what separates her from other DJ’s, male or female.

Possessing a background in performance art and acting, Chelsea J. was one of the premier artists and burlesque performers in Vancouver’s famed “Ginger 62”, as Hollywood North’s established art-cum-house music venue and club; always the character, Chelsea loves to play with the crowd, and rise to the occasion when it’s called for; whether its for a James Bond theme party, or last year as Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, or Pocahontas for Halloween, head’s turn and finger’s snap for this energetic, fun-loving, sassy “lady DJ.”

Her crowning achievement was performing alongside Leona Lewis at the MTV Asia Awards ’08. She’s appeared in many print, TV, and radio spots – gracing the cover of TimeOut KL, Junk Magazine, Star Newspaper, The Beat Magazine Bali, an hour special about female DJ’s on Malaysian television, as a guest host on “Turn It Up” radio, and the list goes on!

Time time for an UPDATE!

August was MAD! The last few weeks had me playing alongside DJ Leanne @ Opus,

Joey's Bentall Customer Appreciation Party ( with Alex Maher on sax ) every Thursday at Joey's Uptown for "T.G.I.T" ( thank god its thursday - duh! ) Au Bar for the "Ladies Night Out" with Leanne and the Girl On Wax Crew, The awesome Run for the Cure party at Killarney, Milestones Robson, Joey's Robson ( Industry Tuesdays ) and a wedding or 3!! No big deal, really!! All inna D(J)AYS work!! :)))

So happy to announce that September will bring just as many events, altho I will be taking a mini-break mid-month - but the first 3 weeks will be jam PACKED. Here is just a teaser ;)

Last week saw me buzzing all around Vancouver, for lots of fun and exciting events ^^ ^ Ginger, ( pic above ) for LUVTOUCH Thursdays

( best proper house nite in town..watch out! )....I played Milestones on Friday, a boat party in the day w/ DJ Leanne on Saturday, later that evening saw me play at the Cecil.. ;)

I can't forget the TRON wrap party at Nu on Monday....I got those peeps DANCIN'

It's been a month since I've been back from Asia, and Vancity is def treating me good....who knew I would get a phone call inviting me up to Fort St. John in Northern B.C to play last week - 3 days of chillin' and playin' in tha Fort was pretty cool, I think my style of "top 40" was a nice change for them, all sorts of remixes, house, and hype tracks..they were dancing ;)

big thanks to the management @ On The Rocks for being so hospitable....

Lots of artists and tracks and producers i am feeling right now, especially those LMFAO kids!! I am always feeling Keri Hilson, anything with Timbo, Drake is hilarious ( props to Degrassi!! ) the Ting Tings, Pitbull, Crookers, Kid Cudi, Madcon, Discotech, Ciara and JT's collabo, ahh....It's about that time I put together "that" mix....stay tuned...

It's already a busy week ahead, like daft punk i got lots of HOMEWORK to do, here's to making it harder, better, faster, stronger, sassier, and soulfullller...you can catch me out at Milestones Yaletown this Saturday for dinner&drinks sessions....

Then I'm off to the State of California on Sunday for a mini-getaway, inspirational trip to check out this special place and.........wooooo!!

Greetz!

It's been an amazing past week filled with reacquainting myself in the Vancouver "scene."

( My most favorite scene being the seawall on a sunny day on my bike!! )

However, as for the music/dj scene, last week started off with seeing the intoxicating and always entertaining Sherry St. Germain doin' her thang at Gotham, ( she got me to sing a little with her too... ;)) followed by peeping out U-Turn @ the Modern...

Canada Day was filled with fun while myself, Leanne, and the whole Girl On Wax crew did the DJ-do to a sunny crowd..Thursday I played at Milestones on Robson, then got to groove to one of the worlds best producers and dj...Jay-J from Shifted Music throwing down deep, groovy, and sexy at Republic..which will now present "Upfront, Bigroom, Hands-in-the-air House." Here's to hoping I will be on that roster soon!!

Saturday saw me playing at Malones in Yaletown, then off to see the premier lineup of DJ's Luke Mckeehan, Jay Tripwire and Krown groove it out @ Ginger 62 proper deep house styles!!

HELLO!!!!

I landed back in BEAUTIFUL B.C on the 8th of June, and it's been a whirlwind of catching up with dear friends, family, and just soaking up the beautiful summer sun, fresh air, and gorgeous greenery, and not to mention, my 10 year highschool reunion!! ...Summer in Vancity is certainly the BEST time to enjoy, alas, it's ALMOST time to get back down to DJ biz-niss!

My My My....

May is halfway thru, and the past week has been crazy and fun, and the upcoming few weeks have got me playing all over Malaysia....Check out a little insight and my dates below...

April was quite chill, which was great since it was my BIRTHDAY month, which I spent in Chiang Mai with my lovely Aunty who lives there and runs a spa....great getaway, who doesn't love Thailand; chilling with elephants, river rafting, thai massage everyday, spiritual retreats, and new friends and faces certainly made it a memorable time...there are pictures posted on my Facebook page, add me up at Chelsea Joelle and become a new friend... ;-)

As for May, I have done so much already! My Wednesday weekly at Werner's, "Rendezvous..." which is shaping up nicely with the addition of Ms. Joanna Chee as the marketing director of this fantastic venue....

I also played at a beautiful wedding in Ipoh last week, I really enjoy being a wedding dj, it's such a relaxed, lovely environment, and a true celebration....time for people to unite and just have a good time...which I definitely did, thanks to all those who invited me to play and make new friends...Sayangi Ipoh!!

Last week the students from Limkokwing Creative Tech University following me around for a couple of days to film a biography on me, tentatively titled "Princess of Darkness." I was happy to be their subject, altho I think I have a lot more career and experience to gain before I do a proper, full-length "biography."

I am still waiting for the half hour feature on myself and DJ Nuthiya to air on "Spin" ( Astro. ) Keep posted on that one...

As for print promotions, I am honored to be on the cover of this months "Expatriate Lifestyle" magazine, inside I also wrote an article on my Malaysian Ex-Pat experience on learning how to play the gamelan. Fun stuff.

I just finished an interview and photo shoot with 4 other female dj's for next months "Juice" magazine feature....the ladies really are making noise in 2009 here in KL and all over Malaysia, I am proud to be one of the trailblazers of this movement. Since my introduction to the scene last year, I have seen the demand for female dj's rise dramatically. On Changkat Bukit Bintang, the street that holds the hottest clubs in KL, there are 3 or 4 nights out of the week dedicated to hosting strictly female talent, not to mention Skybar, Lunabar, Le Blanc Club, and the list goes on...

Hola!

It's been a while since I've updated...soooo, here goes.....

As for gigs in KL, I have had the pleasure at playing at Skybar in Traders Hotel for the F-1 weekend..Definitely one of the sleekest, slickest venues I have ever played in.....rooftop of Traders Hotel, a panoramic view of KL, a lap-swimming pool that runs the length of the bar..named "Best Malaysian Bar" by the Malaysian Tatler...

Every Wednesday night at Werner's on Changkat is a new reason to come out and meet some new friends, listen to some funky, chunky big bad beats, or sexy and soulful, whatever is on the musical menu for the night... Come "Rendezvous" in a venue that is reminiscent of a Miami-style lounge, tapas bar and club...50 Changkat Bukit Bintang, KL, Malaysia

And yours truly is going to be the cover-girl and feature and ( first time!! ) article writer of May's "Expatriate Lifestyle" Magazine...I was chosen to learn how to play the Malay gamelan,

Better late than never....as usual, February, has practically passed us by in a heartbeat..... ( yes, there is a love theme going on here....) in less than 10 days we will see March march right in....."time marches on never ending...time keeps it's own time......"

Wednesday, Feb. the 25th is "Ladies Night" at the more than swank, visually and aurally impressive "Sultan Lounge" in the Mandarin Oriental @ KLCC. This place is one of the most beautiful and exotic spots I've ever seen, and from the entrance you are greeted as V.I.P, taken 3 floors down the elevator into the underground, into the genie bottle as I see it, and from there seated in plush seats with exquisite lighting and a smooth and professional staff...and the music programming, spear-headed by Shazan, is world-class house music quality...!

The last day of the month brings myself & Nuthiya ( Fusion Discoteka ), and incredibly talented producer&DJ&record head, the venerable Ray Soo of Luv-International..This night is going to be reminiscent of the early days of house and disco, when Larry Levan ruled the Paradise Garage and music was all about love, freedom, and fun.....with disco, rarities, deep&funky&soulful sounds, space-disco..this is the beginning of a beautiful thing people....

As for March, I will be playing alongside a myriad of DJ's and performers at Zouk Club for International Women's Day..as well as the monthly Fash Fab installment first Thursday of March....More detailed info to follow soon...stay CHOONED!!! :-)

Time for the Official Update, for the New New Year!!

Whew!

Good thing there's the Lunar New Year, as now I am officially off to a fresh start today with a new bio, new event listings, and a bit of a new look!

It's the Year of the Ox baby!! Time to work hard, play hard, focus with determination and keep it mooooovin' no matter what!!!!!

I have done much in 2008, so many stories, experiences, and friends to look back on and think "damn!" only in a year so much has changed!! Truly, we never stop learning and changing, and I hope this year, it just keeps getting better and better...

Thanks to all the people who have kept the faith and friendship with me, as well as opportunities from business and owners, promoters, artists and other dj's who have shown their faith in me...all over the world..especially Malayisa...time to continue to strive and grow some more, with many projects, idea's and connections to make...hope to see you there..
